Going to AWS re:Invent

The end of November 2021 and re:Invent is just around the corner, with the new hybrid setup allowing for both on-site and virtual attendance. It is AWS yearly flagship event where they launch the biggest news, and 2021 is extra special because it’s the 10th anniversary. Join Knowit and the team on-site for the best bits coming out this year!

AWS has always pushed re:Invent as an educational event. It is regarded as one of the best events of its kind. An agenda so packed with sessions makes it a challenge to decide where to spend your time. It requires focusing on what applies to you and your business, so work backwards from your needs.

With that in mind, here are some general recommendations and a couple of my own choices.

Keynotes

That is where the head honchos of AWS presents the most significant news and where you get a glimpse of what AWS has been doing and where they are heading. Don’t miss the keynotes from AWS new CEO Adam Selipsky and the always appreciated Werner Vogels, Amazon’s CTO, as they share news and insights.

Leadership Sessions

These are sessions hosted by different leaders in AWS. I like to point out Leading through uncertainty hosted by Francessca Vasquez, VP of Technology and Continuous security improvement, with Stephen Schmidt, Chief Information Security Officer at AWS.

Some other highlights - Sustainability

Being on-site in Las Vegas, I have the opportunity to participate in workshops and gamedays (“simulations” of real scenarios), so they take up the bulk of my schedule. Some other sessions I’m looking forward to are Architecting for sustainability and Sustainability in AWS global infrastructure. Sustainability has always been at the top of the list for us at Knowit. Still, I hear this increasingly from decision-makers and stakeholders that they are pressed to deliver on these promises. Cloud and AWS is a huge enabler not only for innovation but also sustainability. Make sure to include that from the start or when you review your Cloud workloads and ongoing projects.
