This paper is dedicated to the leaders working for or with Swedish serial acquirers, such as compounders and roll-ups.
While decentralization is the most praised characteristic of the Swedish model, there’s surprisingly little literature detailing how it actually functions in the field. This paper examines the flip side: centralization in practice. It sheds light on:
What decentralization among compounders actually looks like.
The ideal conditions for effective centralization.
Specific centralization initiatives peers are currently implementing.
Winning centralization strategies for compounders.
Most compounders have, at least, considered some level of centralization—some more, some less. It can be a powerful tool for improvement, but one should approach increased centralization with careful consideration. One shoe doesn’t fit all, which is true for both Cinderella and centralizing organizations.
Different conditions create different paths for success; the question is, what’s yours?
For this qualitative study, we summarized insights collected from discussions with over 35 compounders, including Holding CEOs, COOs, CTOs, and Investment Managers.
