Meet Embeddy: Our Nerdy Little Reminder That We’re in This Together

Written by Raktima Sengupta | Oct 17, 2025 2:45:59 PM

At Knowit Connectivity, we thrive on diversity, of skills, ideas, and the amazing people spread across our offices. Each site has its own spark. But one question kept buzzing through our chats and coffee breaks:

How do we stay truly connected, no matter where we sit?

That’s when the idea for Embeddy was born.

A mascot.
A helper.
A slightly quirky office companion designed to connect us all.

Now you might ask, why Embeddy?

Well, Embeddy started with one simple goal: to bring people together through tech and have fun doing it!

It’s a friendly face for our creativity - curious, a bit cheeky, and full of Knowit spirit. Because innovation isn’t just about smart code or sleek design. It’s about people connecting, and sometimes, it just takes a tiny robot to make that happen.

A hackathon that sparked something bigger

To bring Embeddy to life, we recently hosted a second phase of a company-wide hackathon across our offices.

The goal?

Design and prototype our own office assistant. One that could interact with us, help around the office, and maybe even share a few jokes along the way.

Over several days, teams across Sweden brainstormed, coded, built, and laughed their way through an incredible creative sprint.

Each site added its own twist to what Embeddy could become:

  • Östersund led the interface and interaction design, developing Embeddy’s personality, voice, and face. Using Unity for animation and ESP32 boards for expression control, they gave Embeddy a distinct identity.
  • Gothenburg took on mechanical design and motion, assembling a servo-driven base powered by Arduino and Raspberry Pi modules. They integrated ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection and a pan-tilt camera to enable movement tracking.
  • Lund/Malmö explored AI-based interaction, connecting voice and intent recognition using Python, speech-to-text APIs, and lightweight LLM inference on embedded hardware. Their setup allowed Embeddy to answer simple questions and even greet colleagues by name.
  • Stockholm–Kista worked on system integration and cloud connectivity, creating a MQTT-based communication layer that links Embeddy’s sensors, voice modules, and UI to shared dashboards. They also refined its branding, ensuring the mascot embodies our shared Knowit spirit.

More than a mascot

Embeddy isn’t just a side project: it’s our newest teammate. A mix of curiosity, code, and a bit of mischief, built to remind us what collaboration really means at Knowit Connectivity. It’s proof that when creativity meets engineering, even a robot can bring people closer together.

The hackathon was only the beginning. Each site added its own spark, and together we turned an idea into something real. Embeddy’s story is still unfolding. But already, it’s achieving what it was meant to do: bring us together.

Want to be part of Embeddy’s next chapter?

We’ve added a short suggestion form to the blog, a space to share your ideas or join the next creative sprint. Because real connection happens when every voice helps shape the story.
