At Knowit, we believe that a diverse and inclusive workplace is not only the right thing to pursue – it is also the foundation of a sustainable work life. Diversity, equity and inclusion are not just buzzwords for us; they are embedded in our daily practices, office design, communication, and most importantly, in our culture.

What does DEI mean to us?

We are deeply committed to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in many tangible ways. DEI spans across gender, age, skills, personalities, neurodiversity, disabilities, nationalities and backgrounds. Our employees represent a range of ages and career stages, and we are proud to have colleagues with various backgrounds and features. We believe that diverse teams bring the best results.

We track and measure how things are evolving and act upon the results, always aiming to improve. While we do not collect personal data related to non-visible traits such as gender identity or personality characteristics, in line with legal and ethical considerations, we collect feedback in the overall experience of DEI in other anonymous ways.

What do we do to support DEI?

Choosing inclusive ways to communicate

English is our official company language to ensure that everyone can fully participate in communication and collaboration, whether it's on our intranet, in Slack discussions, or during our monthly all-hands meetings.

Supporting diversity in practice

In May 2024 we organized a company-wide webinar series on neurodiversity to raise awareness and provide practical tools for supporting different ways of working. At our offices, you’ll also find physical reminders on desks encouraging reflection on diversity and inclusion.

Our office environments are designed for various needs. There are quiet spaces for focused work, and employees can choose from a variety of desk setups – with or without screens, standing or seated – all ergonomically equipped to support individual preferences. Our offices are also accessible for individuals with disabilities.

As an addition to working spaces at the offices we also have spaces to calm down and recover during the day. Our offices are equipped with wellness-rooms and Neurosonic-mattresses to support the need to relax and recover during the workday.

A culture where you can be yourself

One of the core pillars of Knowit’s culture is sustainable work life – and DEI is a key part of it. What’s important is that this is not a top-down initiative, but rather something that our people have brought forward themselves, highlighting the importance of being able to genuinely be oneself at work, to grow in one’s own way, and to have equal opportunities to thrive. To support this we provide training to our People Leaders about emotional skills and human perception.

Measuring DEI: listening and learning

Our DEI efforts are not based on assumptions or one-off initiatives. We continuously keep track of the things we can measure , and the latest results from spring 2025 on Group level are:

Where we really have succeeded in is getting more women to leadership positions. Especially in Finland our numbers are showing the results of years of dedicated work:

However, our reporting reflects binary gender data only, but we recognize that gender exists beyond the binary.

In addition to tracking numbers we also want to understand how people feel about working at Knowit.

To do this we conduct a company-wide employee survey twice a year to understand how people experience diversity, equity, and inclusion at Knowit. Key statements in the survey include:

  • “I can be myself in Knowit’s culture”
  • “I feel I have the same opportunities as my colleagues to develop at work”
  • “At Knowit, we value our diversity”

From these responses, we build a DEI Index, which serves as a key metric for tracking how well we are doing – and most importantly, where we can improve.
